Mauricio Pochettino claims Giovani Lo Celso has to wait before starting at Tottenham

Giovani Lo Celso made his return from injury in our 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade. The Argentine had missed close to two months of action with a hip problem but got a few minutes from the bench.

The 23-year-old hasn’t started a game for us since joining from Real Betis and Mauricio Pochettino was asked in his pre-match press conference as to when the Argentine could be in the first XI.

The manager didn’t want to push Lo Celso after his return and claimed the player needs to be patient (h/t Football.london):

“He only played 10 minutes. I understand people want to see new faces but he needs time like Tanguy or Ryan Sessegnon.”

Poch was speaking before the Liverpool clash at the weekend and highlighted we have several players who can do a job in Lo Celso’s place:

“I understand of course that people want to see new faces and different players but we have plenty of players – we have Dele, Tanguy, Christian Eriksen, Lamela, Harry Winks, a lot of midfielders in that position.

“He needs to wait for his opportunity.”

Spurs need Lo Celso to start games soon

The former Real Betis star was excellent for the La Liga side last season and is a regular for the Argentina national team too.

Lo Celso provides us with another attacking option and we have missed goals from the midfield this season.

Pochettino is right in trying to bed him and then give him a start as the Premier League is tough to adjust to. Many South Americans have struggled initially but have come into their own a few months later.

However, Tottenham need the 23-year-old to feature soon as we have had a poor season.
