Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela ruled out of Sheffield United clash
Tottenham face a tough Sheffield United clash at the weekend and will be without two players. Hugo Lloris is a long-term absentee due to his elbow injury from a few weeks back. However, Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela are out with hamstring injuries.
Spurs posted an update on Twitter claiming that the two players are continuing their rehab and will not feature against the Blades.
Pair missing for a while
Vertonghen and Lamela have been out of action for a while. The last game they featured in was the 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade at home.
Lamela scored once and provided two assists in that game and took his tally to three goals and three assists for the season.
Vertonghen, for his part, missed the start of the season but eventually came back to the side. Mauricio Pochettino tried a new defensive pairing of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez in our midweek 4-0 win over Red Star.
Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon also featured in the win over Red Star. The two players have had their injury problems since joining us but could give Mauricio Pochettino a positive selection headache for the clash against Sheffield.

It will be interesting to see what kind of team Pochettino fields against the Blades. The international break follows this weekend’s game, and a win should give us something to build on for the rest of the season.
