Jose Mourinho wants to sign Bournemouth star Nathan Ake in January

Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with former Chelsea youngster Nathan Ake in the January window, according to English reports (h/t Calciomercato).

The Dutch defender was part of the Chelsea setup during Mourinho’s second spell in charge there.

Ake left the Blues to join Bournemouth under Eddie Howe and has done a great job there. The 24-year-old has played every Premier League game for the Cherries this season and is a regular for the Dutch national side too.

The youngster has blossomed under the tutelage of Howe, and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move in January.

Tottenham haven’t been great defensively this season. Jose Mourinho might be the new manager but we have conceded two goals in each game under him.

Ake is one of the best young defenders in the Premier League and could do a job here. However, there are some concerns regarding the other centre-backs at the club.

Mourinho has to decide on the future of our defenders

Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are great as a pair but both are free agents at the end of the season.

Vertonghen made his return from injury in the win over Olympiakos but was on the bench. Alderweireld has started both games under Mourinho, and it will be interesting to see what happens with the Belgians in the summer.

They have a wealth of experience but have slowed down due to their age. Pairing Ake with Davinson Sanchez would solve our centre-back problem for years and the pair have the pace to deal with most attackers in the league.
