Tottenham interested in Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel

Tottenham are keen on 23-year-old goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, according to football journalist Kevin Hatchard (h/t Express).

The expert spoke about the Schalke star’s contract issues and highlighted that Spurs were linked with him in the summer too.

Nubel has become the first-choice at Schalke over the past season and the 23-year-old was also in action for Germany during the summer’s U21 Euros.

Hatchard claimed that Nubel hasn’t signed a new contract yet and is being monitored by Spurs (h/t Express):

“One little whisper that came my way on Spurs in the last few days is that they are keeping an eye on Alexander Nubel.

“He is out of contract at the end of the season and hasn’t signed a new one yet.”

The expert added that Bayern Munich were linked with Nubel, but they still have Manuel Neuer on their books.

Do Tottenham need a new keeper next season?

Spurs have done alright under Jose Mourinho winning the two games he has led them in.

However, we have conceded four goals in those two matches, and that will be a concern for Mourinho.

Paulo Gazzaniga has done a decent job since replacing the injured Hugo Lloris.

Lloris is out of action until 2020 due to a dislocated elbow, and it will be interesting to see how he does when returning to the first-team.

The Frenchman has made mistakes in the past but is still one of the best in the world.

Nubel could also be a smart addition to the team given his age and potential. However, it would be a major surprise if he leaves Schalke to be on the bench for his new club.
