Tottenham dealt injury blow in hopes of signing Youcef Atal
Football.london claims that Tottenham have been dealt a blow in their hopes of signing Youcef Atal.
The Algerian right-back has been great at Nice over the years and is capable of playing on either wing too.
The 23-year-old was linked with Tottenham in the summer, according to the Telegraph, with a rumoured price tag of £35million (h/t Football.london).
However, Atal remained at the club and he could remain till the summer window too.
The youngster picked up a serious injury in the 4-1 win over Metz and only played 29 minutes. A statement from the Ligue 1 club read (h/t Football.london):
“The diagnosis revealed a meniscal lesion in the right knee. The 23-year-old, who will be operated soon, will unfortunately be out of action for a long time.”
Tottenham’s right-back concerns
Spurs have been unable to solve their right-back problems even after selling Kieran Trippier before the start of the season.
The Englishman has done well at Atletico Madrid. However, Serge Aurier has struggled with consistency.
Kyle Walker-Peters has been injured for a while and cannot break into the team under Jose Mourinho.
Juan Foyth can play in that position, but the Argentine is another that hasn’t featured much under Mourinho.
It is going to be an interesting January window for Mourinho, and hopefully, we get some quality players in the coming weeks.
