Tottenham in talks with Chelsea star Willian over January move
Jose Mourinho seems keen on raiding his former club with Willian in his sights, according to Ian McGarry.
Tottenham have history with Willian as the Brazilian was set to join us in 2013 before ending up at rivals Chelsea at the last moment.
The 30-year-old has been one of their most consistent performers over the years and scored in Chelsea’s win over Spurs recently.
Willian is a free agent at the end of the season and Tottenham are in contact with the Brazilian’s representatives.
McGarry was speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast and claimed this was a “logical” move by Spurs (h/t Daily Star):
“I think this is a sensible and logical move for Tottenham – they have contacted representatives of Willian, the Chelsea winger, who is now 31 and in the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge.”
McGarry added that Frank Lampard wants to keep hold of the Brazilian. However, Willian doesn’t want a one-year deal and Spurs could offer him a two-and-a-half-year deal.
A good move for Spurs?
Willian would provide Spurs with more attacking options and we need that after Harry Kane’s hamstring injury.
The Brazilian can play on either wing and McGarry added that Mourinho is keen on landing his former player.
Willian’s age might be a concern but his performances have been consistent for the Blues this season.
