Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with Willian at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are in line to secure the signature of Brazilian midfielder Willian, seven years after he snubbed a move to Spurs in favour of Chelsea. Jose Mourinho is a fan of the midfielder and is keen on a reunion with the 31-year-old midfielder. (h/t Daily Mail)

Willian’s contract at Chelsea is set to expire in the summer and the player’s future at the club remains uncertain for now. European heavyweights Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus are also keen on the player who will be available for free in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham looked to have won the race for Willian in 2013, only for Chelsea to swoop in for the player at the last moment. The Brazilian has played 319 times for the Blues and has scored 57 goals.

The Chelsea manager at the time was Mourinho and the Brazilian flourished under this tutelage. The Portuguese also tried to sign the Brazilian during his stint at Manchester United. The addition of Willian would bring experience and quality to our richly talented squad.

Chelsea are desperate to keep hold of their star man and have offered the player a one-year extension on his current deal. Willian, however, is seeking a two-year deal plus a pay rise from his £110,000-per-week wage.

Willian put in a man of the match performance in Chelsea’s victory over Tottenham last month. He scored both the goals in the impressive 2-0 win for the Blues. The 31-year-old was a member of the Brazil squad that won the 2019 Copa America.

Chelsea are keen on retaining the player’s services and are likely to return with another offer. The Blues see him as a critical cog in their long-term plans. Willian has come into his own since the departure of Eden Hazard and has impressed under Frank Lampard.
