Jose Mourinho gives an emphatic reply to Paul Merson’s accusations
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has given a befitting reply to Arsenal legend Paul Merson’s accusations of him being unhappy at Spurs.
Merson, writing in his weekly column on the Daily Star, had accused Mourinho of being grumpy while comparing his Tottenham reign to the previous disappointment at Manchester United.
The Spurs tactician did not hold back in his reply to Merson. Calling him an attention seeker spreading untrue news, Mourinho reiterated his happiness in being at Tottenham. In an interview with Sky Sports, he said:
“Contrary to some people who want to be in the news and tell things that are not true, I am really happy at the club.”
The Portuguese went on to admit that the job was difficult but that’s exactly why he was brought in. Regarding the accusations of him being grumpy, Mourinho stated that he cannot hide his displeasure when the team loses.
The Spurs boss also went on to add that he enjoyed the relationship he had with his players. Mourinho is optimistic about next season and is relishing the chance to work with the players from July itself. It should give him a good pre-season to iron out his tactics going into the new season.
Merson’s comments came after Mourinho substituted Jan Vertonghen early in the second half in the FA Cup replay against Southampton.
