Injury boost as Ben Davies returns to Tottenham Hotspur training
Tottenham Hotspur have received a massive injury boost with Ben Davies returning to training. The Welsh full-back has missed the last three months due to injury. (h/t Standard)
The 26-year-old has featured just once for Jose Mourinho – in the Portuguese’s first match in charge as Tottenham beat West Ham 3-2. The defender came off in the 75th minute after suffering damage on his ankle ligament. (h/t BBC)
The left-back has been a rather problematic position for Mourinho. Jan Vertonghen has looked like a fish out of the water while Ryan Sessegnon is better going forward than defensively.
Davies is a measured defender, who would complement Aurier’s more swashbuckling style. The Welshman has made just nine appearances so far this season. His return will come at an ideal time as Spurs aim to take advantage of Chelsea’s slip-ups to secure a top-four spot.
Japhet Tanganga has performed admirably at left-back but the perils of playing the youngster consistently without proper rest is a risk that is better curtailed.
