Spurs face RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round on Wednesday. The Germans are currently second in the Bundesliga and will present a formidable obstacle for Jose Mourinho’s side.
The 23-year-old has been in impeccable form this season. He is second in the Bundesliga scoring charts with 20 goals in 22 games this season. (h/t BBC)
Tottenham play the first leg at home and will have to be on their toes to prevent the Germans from scoring away goals.
Spurs have not exactly been the defensive masters that Mourinho’s teams are famed for. We have the joint lowest number of clean sheets this season. (h/t Premier League)
It is a huge weakness that a team of Leipzig’s calibre can exploit if given the chance. Higginbotham, writing in his column for the Sun, has pointed out right-back Serge Aurier as Spurs’ Achilles heel.
“Serge Aurier often plays like a right-winger and leaves a lot of space behind him,”
The Ivorian did exactly what he was accused of against Aston Villa. He pushed up too forward leaving gaps behind and offered scant protection to Toby Alderweireld.
