Jose Mourinho provides Tottenham Hotspur injury update
Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has provided encouraging news to the involvement of two Spurs stars for the FA Cup fifth-round clash against Norwich City on Wednesday, according to the Evening Standard.
The Good
Already beset by injuries to a number of key players, Tottenham will be glad to know that both Erik Lamela and Ryan Sessegnon are close to a return. Concerns were raised when Lamela withdrew late from the clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Argentine will now undergo a late fitness test prior to the match.
Sessegnon has missed Spurs’ last two clashes after experiencing discomfort in his hip. The youngster has been training outside this week. He is likely to be ready at least in time for the clash against Burnley at the weekend.
The Bad
One major concern will be the absence of Hugo Lloris who also missed the match against Wolves. The club captain is suffering from a groin strain and although it isn’t believed to be serious, will not be risked against Norwich. Reserve keeper Paulo Gazzaniga will once again deputize for the injured Frenchman.
Lloris is expected to be fit for the weekend’s clash against Burnley, or at the very least to face Leipzig in the Champions League next week. The Frenchman was the hero for Spurs in the first leg and the team will be glad to have him back for the return leg.
Troy Parrott could once again make the bench. Mourinho will also be wary of overplaying the likes of Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn. The boss has has repeatedly talked about Parrott not being ready, yet he curiously threw on the striker as a late substitute in the loss to Wolves.
Other players out injured are Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko and Heung-Min Son who are all out for the foreseeable future.
