Former Tottenham player insists 17-goal striker is not the solution for striking woes

Jose Mourinho hits back at Tottenham fans demanding for Troy Parrott to start

According to a report by Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has hit back at fans demanding for Troy Parrott to receive more starts.

With a long-term injury to Harry Kane, we have been pressed for goalscoring options. And in such a situation, the teenage striker has shown flashes of brilliance in the chances he has been afforded so far.

As a result, there have been calls for allowing Parrott to lead the line on a regular basis – even more so after Son Heung-min’s injury.

The report adds that Mourinho does not think the youngster is ready to shoulder such a huge responsibility just yet. After all, replacing the likes of Son and Kane is not an easy feat, by any means.

When asked about this, the Portuguese gaffer said in a press conference:

“This is a world where lots of people, they don’t even know if Troy has long hair or short hair. Or is blonde or is dark. They don’t even know that and speak about: Troy, Troy, Troy, Troy, he should play.

“There was a guy behind me on the bench the other day: Play Troy, play Troy. I don’t think he knows Troy.”

Troy is still very young and although he has been promising enough, perhaps it is too big of a risk to take. The striker needs regular game time to sharpen his skills but considering his age, he also requires patience. And in a cut-throat competition like the Premier League, that would be a problem.

Troy Parrott

Some fans can be aggressive and Troy’s development might take a hit in such a potentially hostile environment. Moreover, he is currently getting a decent number of chances to prove himself and Parrott must grab it all by the scruff of the neck.
