Jose Mourinho asks Spurs board to choose between Burnley and Leipzig
According to BBC (h/t Daily Mail) Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is set to ask his board to choose between the Premier League tie against Burnley on Saturday and the Champions League fixture against Leipzig next week.
This comes after Tottenham were knocked out of the FA Cup by Norwich City on penalties. The competition offered Spurs’ best chance of winning a trophy this season.
With the attention now returning to the race for the top four and the UEFA Champions League, the Spurs boss will ask his superiors to take a call on what to focus on.
According to the report, Mourinho has revealed that his side cannot focus on both competitions, hinting at going all out in one of them at the expense of the other.
Tottenham have consistently failed to take advantage of Chelsea’s numerous slip-ups and now find themselves five points off the Blues. With just 10 more games to go, we cannot afford to drop any more points. Losing the match here will not just put a wide chasm between us and the fourth spit but we will also have to suffer the ignominy of falling below Burnley in the league table.
Things arent easier in the Champions League either as Leipzig are at home having won 1-0 in London two weeks ago. The Germans caused Spurs numerous problems and could have finished off the tie had it not been for Lloris’s heroics.
Mourinho’s men have to come out and attack now, a daunting task given the club’s paucity of strikers.
It would make more sense for Mourinho to focus on the race for the top four. Although the likes of Chelsea, Wolves and Manchester United are ahead of us they still have a number of tougher fixtures to negotiate before the end of the season.

Chelsea also has to play both Wolves and Manchester United which could work out to our benefit. It is essential that we qualify for the Champions League next season.
Not doing so could affect our chances of bringing in better players in the summer as Mourinho strives to rebuild a competitive side.
