Daniel Levy to provide Mourinho £50m transfer budget if Tottenham fail to seal UCL spot

According to a report by The Telegraph (h/t Daily Express), Daniel Levy will provide Jose Mourinho with a paltry £50m transfer budget in the summer. If we fail to secure a Champions League spot, that’s the amount the Portuguese gaffer would have to work with.

As things stand, our chances of finishing in the top-four look increasingly slim. We are currently placed 7th in the standings and although we are just 5 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, our performances haven’t been the best lately.

After an initial run of good form, Tottenham are without a win in the last four games across competitions. After getting dumped out of the FA Cup by Norwich City on penalties last night, it remains to be seen as to how we fare in the Premier League.

In order to seal a top-four spot, we would need to win nearly all our remaining games. And with more than half of the first-team stars either out injured or struggling from a dip in form, our chances look as good as over.

The report adds that Mourinho has admitted that there wouldn’t be any major changes in the summer as far as signing new players are concerned. And considering the budget provided, one cannot blame him.

The report further explains that the former Manchester United boss wanted to sign a new striker to act as a back-up for Harry Kane while also needing reinforcements at right-back and centre-back. With that in mind, the upcoming transfer window does sound challenging.

The budget would increase if cash is generated from a player’s departure but at this point, Mourinho would be wise to retain all the players at his disposal.
