Farouk recounts how Tottenham Hotspur showed him the right way

Nigerian Teenager, Farouk is a part of our club’s ‘To Care is To Do’ program. Yesterday he starred in a video uploaded on Tottenhamhotspur.com, recounting how the Spurs have had an effect in shaping his character.

Farouk has been a part of the care system since he was eight-year-old. He had then only recently arrived in the United Kingdom from Nigeria. He did not have to wait long for his first experience with the club thereafter.

He has since completed six successful years as a part of Tod Care is To Do. The program, a brainchild of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation supports children in care and care leavers from the local community.

Also supported by BT Sport’s The Supporters Club and Premier League, the program provides a range of support services to help improve educational attainment, increase employability, develop life skills and promote healthy and active lifestyles.

To Care Is To Do provides a variety of activities and services ranging from educational trips to social events, and from life skill workshops to mentoring. These activities are aimed at improving these outcomes and helping children in care reach their potential.

Through his time in the program, Farouk has grown into a young man with high hopes for the future and a positive outlook on life.

He performed exceedingly well in his GCSE examinations last year. This enabled him to study at the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham, an academically selective, state-funded sixth form sponsored by the Club and Highgate School.

The youngster plans to attend Oxford University to study business, once he completes his A levels.

Farouk also hosted an awards ceremony at our stadium, where he was joined by the Mayor of Haringey, and Spurs youth players, Alfie Whiteman and Jamie Bowden.

The youngster was also recently able to land a part-time job at the Spurs Shop at the Tottenham Experience following the Foundation training him with the necessary CV-writing and interview skills.

Speaking about the impact the program has had on his life, the youngster had this to say.

“Spurs have had a very big impact. They have nurtured me and showed me the kind of person I could be. I’m very grateful for that.”
