Tottenham once again interested in Geoffrey Kondogbia
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their interest in Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.
According to the report, Tottenham’s chief scout Steve Hitchen is a long-term admirer of the defensive midfielder and has continued to monitor his development this season at the Mestalla. The player was scouted as a replacement for impressive Belgian midfielder, Mousa Dembele.
Hitchen has monitored the player’s progress since first scouting him in 2017. Kondogbia had just ended his stint with Inter Milan by moving to Valencia on loan. He would go on to do enough to impress the Spaniards to sign him on a permanent deal the following year.
The Central African Republic midfielder is one of the names being considered by Jose Mourinho to augment his struggling squad. The Portuguese is keen on adding a new defensive midfielder.
Tottenham’s ability to scout the player will be curtailed by the uncertainty on whether football will resume across Europe before the beginning of the transfer window in June. But given that we have been scouting the player since 2017, it would be a travesty if we did not have enough to go by to make a decision.
Kondogbia has made 89 appearances for the Los Ches and has scored seven goals and eight assists. He was a part of the Valencia squad that won the 2018-19 Copa Del Rey against Barcelona.
He has five caps for France but was given permission to switch nationalities to the Central African Republic two years ago. The move was permitted since Kondogbia’s five appearances for France were in unofficial matches. This prevented him from being cap-tied and he made the move to the country of his parents’ descent.
