Neil Lennon provides update on Tottenham Hotspur target Kristoffer Ajer
According to Football.london, Celtic manager Lennon has provided an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur target Kristoffer Ajer.
The Hoops boss’ comments come in the wake of the player’s agent’s comments that he will not be extending his contract in the summer and will love to engineer a move away from the club.
Lennon responded in no uncertain terms that it is the club that decides when to sell the player. He went on to state that it is not a decision that the player or his agent can make.
He also went on to add that Ajer is happy at the club and has given no indication that he wants to leave. Lennon then went on to praise the player for his consistency and form.
“I think the agent has shot himself in the foot there”
He stated the agent has likely overstepped in his comments and that the player has a long-term contract to fulfil at Celtic Park. Lennon also declared that there has been no interest in the player of late and that he has received no inquiries regarding Ajer’s availability.
A towering presence in defence, the 6’6″ defender has flourished in Scotland since joining the club in 2016. Ajer has gone on to make 129 appearances for the Hoops.
A versatile player, Ajer can play both in defence and in defensive midfield, and will give Tottenham the opportunity to try out different systems.
The Norwegian has won seven trophies in his time at the club and has been a part of a treble-winning side twice. He achieved the distinction in 2017 and 2018 under current Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers.
