Tottenham keen on on-loan Man United star Chris Smalling
Manchester United loaned out Chris Smalling to AS Roma this season and Tottenham are keen on the Englishman in the summer (h/t Express).
The 30-year-old has been a regular for the Serie A giants despite moving to a new country this season.
Jose Mourinho managed Smalling at Manchester United, and Spurs are leading the race for the centre-back, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Express).
Smalling could still remain at Roma or even return to United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to the report. Arsenal, Everton and Leicester City are also interested in the England international (h/t Express).
Spurs looking at other options too
The report adds that Spurs are looking at other centre-back targets too. Jan Vertonghen is out of a contract at the end of the season, and it seems unlikely he will be given a new deal.
Toby Alderweireld was handed a new deal as his time was extended at Spurs.
Spurs are also keeping tabs on two other Premier League defenders. West Ham’s Issa Diop and Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren are also targets for Mourinho’s side (h/t Express).
Diop has featured regularly for the Hammers. Lovren, however, has struggled for minutes this season at Liverpool. The Croatian is fourth-choice behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. Spurs could do with another quality centre-back coming to help out Alderweireld.
Davinson Sanchez has done well while Japhet Tanganga has been a revelation under Mourinho.
