Tottenham Hotspur hope to edge out West Ham United to Maxime Lopez
According to the Daily Star (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is keen on beating away interest from West Ham United for Marseille midfielder Maxime Lopez.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is available for a bargain price of £10million as he enters the final year of his contract. The player is keen to leave this summer with Spanish side Sevilla keen as well.
Lopez came through the ranks at Marseille before making his first-team debut in 2016. He has since made 146 appearances for the club while scoring five goals and 21 assists.
A widely acknowledged talent!
A versatile player, Lopez is capable of playing anywhere in midfield. Talks over a new contract at the Stade Velodrome have broken down with the 22-year-old is expected to leave the club in the summer.
Les Olympiens are willing to cash in on the player to avoid losing him for free. They have offered Lopez to a number of clubs around Europe. Mourinho is a keen admirer of the youngster and believes him to be an exciting prospect for the future.
This will be the second time in as many windows that we will lock horns with West Ham for a player. We beat our London rivals to sign Gedson Fernandes in January and hopefully, we will do so again for Lopez.
The bigger threat is likely to come from Sevilla, who had an earlier bid worth £14million rejected in January. The player is a fan of the English game and could work in our favour. Lopez had earlier refused a move to England when Liverpool came calling in 2016. Opportunities from England’s big teams don’t come too often and it remains to be seen if he takes it this time around.
