Argentine defender Juan Foyth wants to have a long career in Europe
Promising Argentine defender Juan Foyth moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2017. A regular for the Argentine Under-20 side, he has stepped up impressively for the senior team.
His fortunes at Spurs, however, have lacked the same impressive streak. Approaching the end of his third season in North London, he is yet to cement a place in our senior side and has made just 32 appearances, scoring one goal.
This has now, however, deterred him from believing he can make the grade in Europe. Still only 22, the youngster has time on his side to make a name for himself on this side of the Atlantic.
Speaking on the topic in an Instagram interview (h/t Football.london), Foyth has revealed that he plans to return to Argentina. But only after making a name for himself in Europe.
Foyth revealed that he has an agreement with his friend Santiago Ascacíbar, a star at Herth Berlin. The duo does plan to return to the Argentinian club sometime in the future but just not yet.
“We have to make our career here in Europe and go back at a time when we can give more to the club.”
Foyth has had a season to forget, with him being on the fringes of the first-team. Injuries have not helped matters but neither has he been able to impress new manager Jose Mourinho. His future was up in the air last January and that could be the case again in the summer.
Foyth is still young and has time and talent on his side to start afresh. He is undoubtedly talented and hopefully, will start showing it soon. Jan Vertonghen is in the last few months of his contract while Toby Alderweireld is not getting any younger.
The club continues to be linked with Dejan Lovren and Eder Militao. Foyth should step up and show that the defender we need is already at the club. He could very well be the answer to our problems.
