Danny Murphy in favour of seeing out current season in July

According to TalkSport (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy has backed the call to finish the current Premier League season in July.

With the current season under hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is anyone’s guess what happened next. It was recently published in the Independent that there is a proposal to ensure that the season is finished in July.

This will be achieved by organizing a World Cup like event where games are played behind closed doors.

Thinking out of the box!

The idea is for matches to be played in London and the Midlands with the games being telecast on television. This has been blessed by Murphy, who terms the idea ‘doable’.

“I think in principle it is a fantastic idea. I think it is doable”

Murphy does not find anything unnatural in isolating the players and staff in a hotel to ensure this is taken care of. He admitted that it will be a tiring experience for players but praised the ‘out of the box’ thinking to solve a tricky subject.

He has urged the need for solutions in these unnatural times. Although he accepts it will not be the ideal solution, he says one needs to work with what they have at the moment. No suggestion is without issues and it is about selecting one and going ahead with it.

A former Liverpool star, Murphy will no doubt be thrilled by the season being completed. The Reds are currently on course for their first league title in thirty years, one we have to say is well deserved.

The prolonged break should give us a chance to get our injured stars back into shape. We have nine games to close a seven-point gap on Chelsea, difficult but not improbable. Hopefully, we will also have something to celebrate at the end of the season.
