Meunier would be a quality addition for Tottenham

Thomas Meunier brushes off links with Tottenham Hotspur

Meunier is in the final few months of his contract with the French champions. His contract situation has seen him get linked with a number of clubs across Europe, with Tottenham also being one among them (Football.London).

However, Meunier has dismissed any possibilities of him moving to our side this season, saying that he intends to stay put in Paris. Speaking to RTBF (h/t Mirror), the 28-year-old Belgian international said:

“I don’t understand: I’ve seen so many articles linking me to Tottenham or Inter. I don’t understand this craze. My main objective is always to stay in Paris, but for the moment it’s pretty calm.”

A new right-back needed

Having sold Kieran Trippier last summer and loaned out Kyle Walker-Peters in January, Tottenham have been left short in the right-back department. Serge Aurier has been consistently inconsistent, forcing Mourinho to use youngster Japhet Tanganga in a makeshift role.

And Meunier, given his experience at the top level and proven pedigree, would have been a great addition to our ranks. More so, considering that he would have cost us nothing.

With Meunier dismissing the possibility of him signing for Tottenham, the club should look at other options to reinforce the right-back slot ahead of next season.

At the time of the Premier League suspension, Spurs were eighth in the league table, seven points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea. Manager Jose Mourinho faces an important summer ahead of him, especially if we go on to miss out on qualification to the Champions League.
