Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho eyeing five new additions in the summer
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is keen on strengthening his squad in five positions in the summer transfer window, claims a report from Football Insider (h/t Football.london)
Mourinho took over from Mauricio Pochettino in November last year. But the Portuguese hasn’t been able to spark a turnaround of fortunes at our club. Before the season was suspended due to coronavirus, Tottenham were eighth in the Premier League table and had crashed out of the Champions League and the FA Cup.
Given the situation that the club finds itself in, it is imperative that the squad be strengthened before the next season. To that end, our manager Mourinho is eyeing to strengthen five positions in the squad as per the report.
The priority, obviously, is the centre-forward deparment (h/t Football.london). Given our struggles in front of goal in the absence of star striker Harry Kane, it makes total sense that Mourinho would want to bring in a new No. 9 to add depth in a problematic area for us.
Along with a new striker, the manager is also targeting a new attacking midfielder, a defensive anchorman, a centre-back and a right-back (h/t Football.london).
Having allowed Christian Eriksen to leave in January, the club are short on creativity from the middle of the park. So, a new attacking midfielder would be a welcome addition (h/t Football.london). It is also abundantly clear that the squad lacks a strong, robust defensive midfielder which is a must in any Mourinho side.
The defence has been a major Achilles heel for us this season, with none of our defensive options offering consistency. Moreover, with Jan Vertonghen’s contract expiring, a new centre-back would be a smart addition for the club, while a new right-back would also be welcome given how Serge Aurier has performed.

Ideally, it would be perfect if Tottenham get five players in the summer. But, given the negative financial impact from the coronavirus pandemic, it will be interesting to see if the club will spend heavily.
