Tanguy Ndombele set to be handed lifeline at Tottenham by Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho is set to make a U-turn on the future of Tanguy Ndombele at Tottenham Hotspur and hand the much-maligned midfielder a lifeline next season (h/t Express).
Ndombele arrived at Tottenham from Olympique Lyon last summer in a club record £55m deal. His arrival was met with a lot of expectations, but the 23-year-old has struggled to perform in his debut season in England.
Injuries haven’t helped Ndombele’s cause, but the French international hasn’t shown his true potential when fit and on the pitch either.
Mourinho hasn’t shied away from criticizing the midfielder this season. Post our 1-1 draw against Burnley last month, the Portuguese laid into the 23-year-old questioning his commitment and fitness levels (h/t Express).
“I have to say he [Ndombele] has had enough time to come to a different level.”
This had led to questions over Ndombele’s long-term future at the club. Links to other midfielders like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic only added further fuel to the speculations.
However, as per the latest report from Daily Star (h/t Express), Mourinho has decided to hand the midfielder a lifeline next season. The report states that the Tottenham boss believes that if given more time to settle down and allowed to go through a complete pre-season, Ndombele could grow into a genuine force for the club.

Ndombele, so far this season, has featured in 27 matches across all competitions. The 23-year-old has chipped in with two goals and four assists.
While he has been sub par this season, he possesses immense potential. And should he discover the form he displayed at Lyon, Ndombele could turn out to be a huge asset for us.
