Heung-Min Son to complete four-week military training in South Korea

Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed on the club’s official site that South Korean ace Heung-Min Son will complete his military training before returning to the United Kingdom in May.

The 27-year-old has gained an exemption from the service for two years owing to the country’s football team’s victory in the Asian Games.

This does not, however, excuse him from basic training. This lasts three to four weeks. In an example of making hay when the sun shines, Son will make use of the unexpected break to ensure he is done with his training.

Son has been sidelined since February after suffering a fractured arm in the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa. The South Korean played the whole game with an injured arm and scored twice to ensure Spurs came away with all three points.

That was the club’s last victory of the season, with the team unable to step up and deliver in the Asian star’s absence.

Son had flown back to his homeland for treatment before returning to North London. He has now returned to his country to ensure he is done with his training in time.

There is no news yet on when the Premier League will resume. With FIFA extending the current season indefinitely, it eases the time constraints involved in completing the season. (h/t Daily Mail)

More so, it will ensure that Son is done with his commitments at a time where his absence will not harm our on-field results. The club also confirmed that the player will return in May.

Tottenham are currently seven points off the fourth spot. With just nine matches to play, it remains to be seen if we can gain Champions League qualification.

The unexpected break could be a boon in disguise as far as our on-field activities are concerned. The return of our injured stars could help us have a renewed go in the battle for the top four.
