How does the FIFA decision affect Tottenham Hotspur?
According to the Athletic (h/t Daily Mail), the governing body of world football, FIFA will confirm an indefinite extension to the 2019/20 season.
This will also lead to a change in the dates for the summer transfer window. Players can also extend their contracts beyond June 30.
Without a timeframe to worry about, this decision can help in completing the current season when it is deemed safe to do so. By allowing players to extend contracts before June, it also takes away the uncertainty surrounding the fate of those players whose contracts would have run out this summer.
Completing the season will be a financial boost for Spurs. This will ensure that the club will not have to pay back huge sums of money in broadcast rights. The Premier League clubs would have had to repay a mammoth £762million had the season gone unfinished.
By offering flexibility to national associations to complete the league, FIFA has prevented the opening of a Pandora’s Box. For a club that is run like ours, the loss of such a payout could have had undesirable repercussions.
The flexibility offered by FIFA is important considering that the pandemic has hit different countries differently, which prevents a universal solution from being applied to everyone.
Transfer dealings!
With the transfer window likely to be delayed, it will give us the leeway to plan out our dealings rather than panic buy.
The opportunity to extend the deals of players already at the club will come as a boon for us, considering the situation of Jan Vertonghen. The Belgian is a free agent in the summer and there was uncertainty about his contract given the suspension of the league.
Not only does it let us extend his stay at Spurs but also gives us more time to convince him to sign an extension and remain at the club.

An advantage we stand to gain is that the break will give us time to get our injured stars fit again. Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, Heung-Min Son, and Steven Bergwijn are currently working their way up to full fitness.
Spurs are a different beast altogether with these players in the side. It remains to be seen if we can make a final assault on the top-four.
