Jose Mourinho to square off against Manchester United for David Brooks

According to Wales Online, Tottenham Hotspur are set to face off against Manchester United for promising Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from Dean Court after an injury-ravaged season that is yet to see him make a single appearance. It is extremely unfortunate given the promise he showed last season in his first season in the English top-flight.

An underrated gem?

A versatile player, Brooks can play as a second striker, right winger or even in attacking midfield. Spurs manager Jose Mourinho is a fan of the player who has gone under the radar compared to some of his more illustrious compatriots.

The likes of Jack Grealish and James Maddison are considered two of the brightest young British midfielders in the league. It is worthwhile noting that Brooks too has performed at a similar level.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a fine debut season when he scored 7 goals and 5 assists in 30 Premier League appearances last season. To put this in context, Maddison scored 7 goals and 7 assists in 36 games in his debut season while Grealish has 7 goals and 6 assists in 26 games so far this season.

Brooks is also the youngest of the three and could be a long-term solution for us in midfield. A good dribbler who has an eye for a pass, Brooks’ vision usually goes underrated. The youngster has also performed admirably at the international stage for Wales. He has so far won 12 caps for his country and has scored once.

Injury concerns!

The one concern should be how his injury would have affected him. The player has had two surgeries on his ankle since last summer and has not played since.

Though his ability cannot be questioned, one will have to keep an eye on his physical susceptibility. The player has two years left on his contract and could be available this summer.

If a cut-price deal can be agreed upon, it will be in our best interest to take a gamble on a player who could go on to add that X-factor to our midfield.

Brooks is the reigning Welsh Footballer of the Year. The last Spurs player to win it was a certain Gareth Bale. If he can perform anywhere close to what our former No.11 did, we will have a quality player on our hands.

We missed out on Jack Grealish a couple of seasons ago and hopefully, Brooks will provide the silver lining for that disappointment.
