Tottenham interested in Norwich City youngster Max Aarons
Tottenham Hotspur have been closely monitoring Norwich City starlet Max Aarons, who ticks every box for the club, according to Football.London correspondent Alasdair Gold.
Aarons is a product of the Norwich City academy. The 20-year-old broke into the first-team in the last season and played a key role in the Canaries’ promotion-winning campaign in the Championship.
While Norwich have struggled upon arrival in the Premier League, Aarons has been one of the few positives for Daniel Farke’s side. The England U-21 international has made 30 appearances in all competitions, contributing with two assists. The 20-year-old has a contract that runs till 2024, having penned an extension only last year.
According to the report, Tottenham have been monitoring Aarons very closely for a long time now. The youngster fits the bill perfectly for our club given his age and potential, coupled with his homegrown status. Moreover, the fact that he can play on the left-side of the defence is seen as an advantage (h/t Football.London).
Having allowed Kieran Tripper to leave last summer, without signing a replacement, has left Tottenham short on numbers at right-back.
Serge Aurier is our only frontline right-back, with Kyle Walker-Peters being allowed to leave on loan in January. And, Aurier has had another inconsistent campaign, which has forced Jose Mourinho to use Japhet Tanganga in the right-back slot on occasions.

So, a new right-back would be a sensible addition to the squad next summer. And Aarons, as per the report is the club’s preferred candidate ahead of another promising right-back, Youcef Atal of Nice (h/t Football.London).
The report further goes on to state that Aarons is likely to cost Tottenham around the £30m mark. It remains to be seen if the club do launch a move for the youngster, with the finances likely to be tight after the coronavirus outbreak.
