Tottenham target Thomas Strakosha set to sign a new deal with Lazio
Tottenham’s hopes of landing Thomas Strakosha have been dealt a blow. The Albanian keeper, who has been one of the best in Serie A this term, is close to signing a new deal with Lazio, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Football.london).
The 25-year-old has featured in all 26 Serie A games for the Eagles this season. The Albanian also has conceded the fewest number of goals in the league campaign with just 23 allowed.
Spurs have been linked with Strakosha as they search for Hugo Lloris’ long-term replacement (h/t Football.london). The French keeper has been one of our best signings for years but has become a little inconsistent in between the sticks.
However, Strakosha seems set to sign a new deal with Lazio which will see his wages doubled (h/t Football.london).
Leicester City were also linked with the Albanian keeper (h/t Football.london) but he seems set to remain in Italy.
Strakosha’s form is one reason why Lazio have done so well in the campaign. They are second in the standings just one point behind leaders Juventus.
Spurs have to take a decision
Lloris has also had some injuries during his time at Spurs, and at 33, he doesn’t have too many top years left in the game.
We do have a capable second-choice keeper in Paulo Gazzaniga. The Argentine has impressed in the limited appearances he has been handed but is 28. Strakosha, for his part, is three years younger and has regularly played for Lazio over the past three years.
Tottenham have to take a decision on who our goalkeeper is going to be. Lloris cannot be seen as a long-term option anymore while Gazzaniga needs to play regularly to impress.

However, Lloris is the club captain and putting him on the bench abruptly doesn’t make sense either.
