Cengiz Under back on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer window
Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their interest in AS Roma star Cengiz Under, who was on the club’s radar in the last summer. This is according to a report from Italian publication Tuttomercato (h/t Football.london).
The 22-year-old Under was on our radar last summer, as per Turkish Football (h/t Football.london), but a move failed to materialize.
However, our current manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the Turkish starlet according to a report from Gunes (h/t Football.london). This has led to the club rekindling their interest in the 22-year-old (h/t Football.london).
Under arrived at AS Roma in 2017 from Turkish outfit Istanbul Basaksehir. The 22-year-old, who has been compared to Juventus star Paulo Dybala, has made 67 appearances for the Giallorossi till date, scoring 13 goals and setting up eight more.
The 2019/20 campaign though, has been a difficult one for Under, with a bicep injury keeping him out on the sidelines for a majority of the season.
The Turkish forward only returned to first-team action in January and started seven of Roma’s eight games since, scoring twice in that run. In total, he has three goals from Serie A appearances this term (h/t Transfermarkt).
Given Tottenham’s difficulties in the final third this season, it is clearly evident that Mourinho needs to bring in attacking reinforcements in the summer. Injuries to Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and January signing Steven Bergwijn left our lack of quality in the forward department exposed.

And bringing in someone of Under’s abilities in the summer could go a long way in fixing that. The forward, who has six goals in 20 matches for the Turkey national team, has shown great potential and at 22, is bound to improve and get better.
