Eric Dier wanted by Tottenham’s rivals West Ham United
Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has emerged as a potential transfer target for fellow London club West Ham United ahead of the summer. This is according to a report from the print edition of Sunday’s Daily Star (h/t BeSoccer).
Dier, 26, arrived at Tottenham from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 and has grown into a pivotal player for our club. The Englishman has made 235 appearances for the Lilywhites during his time in London, bagging 11 goals and 11 assists along the way.
Dier will be entering the final year of his current contract with Tottenham in the summer. And West Ham are keenly monitoring the situation, with an intention of snapping up the England international on a cut-price deal (h/t BeSoccer).
Dier is yet to agree new terms with our club and before doing so, the 26-year-old has sought assurances that he will be used in the centre-back role and not as a defensive midfielder by Jose Mourinho moving forward (h/t Daily Star).
A versatile operator, Dier has performed various roles for us, but has most prominently been used in the defensive midfield role. However, the England international had recently revealed that he would prefer to his natural centre-back role (h/t Daily Mail).
“As I’ve said, centre-back is a position where I see my future, where I think I can be the best I can be.”
Dier, in his tenure at our club, has featured as a defensive midfielder on 135 occasions. In comparison, the England international has started 72 matches as a centre-half (h/t Transfermarkt).

Dier has been a valuable member of our team, despite having had his highs and lows along the way. Given that we have lost Christian Eriksen due to a similar contractual situation, the club should act fast to secure the England international’s future amidst interest from the Hammers (h/t BeSoccer).
