Diego Godin is currently plying his trade at Inter Milan
Tottenham are one of two Premier League clubs interested in Diego Godin, according to The Sun.
The Uruguayan is a target for Tottenham and for Manchester United (h/t Sun) despite being 34 years old.
Godin only joined Inter Milan at the start of the season after leaving Atletico Madrid on a free transfer. The experienced centre-back has only started in 12 Serie A games. However, he was a regular in their Champions League journey.
The Uruguayan defender won La Liga and several other trophies at Atletico but TuttoSport (h/t Sun) claims that the centre-back is set to leave Italy and move to the Premier League.
Godin is contracted till 2022 with the Serie A giants, however, it is unlikely he will remain with the club until his deal runs out (h/t Sun).
A battle brewing for Godin?
Jose Mourinho is keen to sign the experienced centre-back as Jan Vertonghen’s contract is up in the summer, according to the report.
The boss failed to land Godin during his time at Manchester United, and his former employers have already made contact with the centre-back (h/t Sun).
Spurs could use another experienced head at the back should we lose Vertonghen next season. We have several young centre-backs on our books and having a wise head amongst them would help their growth and development.
Vertonghen is a free agent at the end of the season. Toby Alderweireld is the other experienced centre-back we have in the side. Juan Foyth, Japhet Tanganga and Davison Sanchez are the other options at the heart of the defence.
Tanganga has impressed a lot this season, and it will be interesting to see how he does in the coming months. Godin would be a great signing and we need to make some smart moves in the transfer window.
