Peter Crouch opens up on his favourite goal for Tottenham Hotspur
Peter Crouch wasn’t at Tottenham for long. The lanky striker spent two seasons at White Hart Lane and made 93 appearances for us.
He scored 24 goals for us during that time. The former star took over Tottenham’s channel yesterday to reveal his favourite three goals for the club.
We take a look at the three goals and what they meant to us as supporters.
#3 – Against Inter Milan (2010) – UEFA Champions League Group Stages
Starting off from the bottom, the striker reminisced about his goal against defending champions Inter Milan at home. Welsh wizard Gareth Bale tore down the left flank to set up a beautiful cross for the Englishman to convert.
The victory propelled us to the top of Group A on goal difference. Crouch had experienced numerous European nights at Anfield under Rafael Benitez. He was the bane of the Spaniard this time around Spurs won the tie 3-1 to take a giant step towards the knockout stages.
#2 – Against AC Milan at the San Siro (2011) – UEFA Champions League Round of 16
Tottenham’s return to the top table of European football was a death sentence for Italian giants AC Milan. After disposing off Inter in the group stages, Tottenham dew their city rivals AC Milan in the first knockout round.
It was a battle between two lanky strikers as Zlatan Ibrahimovic came second best against Peter Crouch. Huerelho Gomes kept us in the game before Aaron Lennon squared the ball to Crouch after a weaving run through the Milan defence.

It was the solitary strike on the night and gave us the all-important away goal to take back to the lane. It may have been our first season back in the top-tier but the fans already had memories to savour.
#1 – Against Manchester City (2010) – English Premier League Gameweek 37
It is only apt that the person who gave us the above memories also set the ball rolling. Tottenham weren’t the Champions League regulars we see today. In fact, we had failed to qualify for Europe’s top competition since the 1960-61 season.
Tottenham took on Manchester City in the penultimate fixture of the season at the City of Manchester stadium. With both the sides neck to neck in the race for fourth spot, it was billed as a knockout for Champions League qualification.
Crouch was at hand to head home the winner in the 82nd minute to send the travelling crowd wild. The victory ensured Tottenham’s first-ever appearance in the Champions League and their return to the European Cup for the first time in 50 years.

The significance of that goal cannot be understated as we finished just three points ahead of City in the final standings. Given that we lost to Burnley on the final day of the season, Crouch’s winner on that night will always live on in our memory.
