Tottenham face Arsenal threat in race to sign Lamare Bogarde
According to Football Insider (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur will have to contend with competition from Arsenal for talented Feyenoord Rotterdam starlet Lamare Bogarde.
The 16-year-old defensive midfielder has caught the eye of a number of sides across Europe. Apart from the North London duo, the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Schalke, Juventus, and AC Milan are also keeping tabs.
Bogarde has made 19 appearances for Feyenoord’s Under 17 side and has scored two goals and four assists. Not shabby at all for a defensive-minded player.
The youngster is eventually expected to drop back and mature into a central defender. Bogarde has made a combined five appearances for the Netherlands junior sides and is considered to be one of the finest talents in his age group.
According to the report, arch-rivals Arsenal are set to outbid us for the player in the coming months. Spurs are, at the moment, a better proposition than the Gunners and it is imperative that we make it count.
Although there is no guarantee that young stars can eventually turn into world-class players, signing the best of the bunch does dramatically increase the odds of it happening.
With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting revenue streams, the era of splashing money in the transfer market could be over. (h/t Express)
The era of self-reliance
It becomes imperative that we build a robust youth system that can churn out players for the first-team. Doing so will help us overcome the upcoming financial crunch while not compromising on our ability to perform on the pitch.
The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have promoted youth this season and have a number of players coming through. We risk getting left behind by our rivals if we do not act fast.
