Tottenham Hotspur make £22m bid for Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi
According to Turkish source Fanatik (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have made an opening bid of around £22m for Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi.
The Kosovan international has been on Tottenham’s radar for a while. The report goes on to claim that Jose Mourinho has gone on to supplement that interest with a concrete opening bid.
The 25-year-old, who joined the Turkish giants in the summer, has been in prolific form, scoring 15 goals and 6 assists in 28 appearances.
An aerially dominant player, Muriqi is a centre-forward befitting of the name. Not only is he a prolific scorer but he is also someone who can hold the ball up and bring his teammates into play. The Kosovan is particularly adept at supplying through balls and finishing.
Muriqi’s contract at the club runs until 2023, giving Fenerbahnce a strong position in any negotiations that may take place.
The lack of cover for Harry Kane has been a problem ever since the departure of Fernando Llorente last summer. Spurs failed to sign a replacement for the Spaniard much to our peril.
We have struggled to cope in the absence of Kane and Heung-min Son this season. With our lack of options upfront laid bare for all to see, strengthening the position this summer should be a no-brainer.
A risky proposition!
Muriqi has however not played in any of Europe’s top leagues. So, whether the player can cope with the pressures of playing for a club of our stature would be a concern.
With the current financial climate, Spurs will have to be smart with the money. It remains to be seen if we consider the Kosovan worth that risk.
