Daniel Levy isn’t sold on signing Thomas Meunier for Tottenham
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is interested in landing Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier on a free at the start of next season.
The Belgian defender has won several trophies at PSG and is capable of playing as a centre-back or right-back. Meunier is also a Belgium international but hasn’t been offered a new deal by PSG, yet (h/t Express).
L’Equipe (h/t Express) added that Mourinho even called the Belgian over a deal to move to London, however, one person isn’t all that keen on the transfer happening.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy isn’t convinced of this transfer and hasn’t sanctioned a move yet, according to the report.
Levy is known to be a tough nut to crack, and it will be interesting to see if the chairman backs the plans of Mourinho. Meunier, for his part, has been bowled over by the boss and wants to play for us (h/t Express).
We do have a problem with the right-back position, and Meunier’s experience would be great.
Levy to do his bit?
The chairman has pulled off some incredible deals in the past, such as the £30m-a-season, 15-year deal with Nike for our kits (h/t Sun).
Mou also praised Levy for negotiating the Christian Eriksen exit to Inter Milan. We landed a decent fee for the Dane who had just six months left and Mourinho was pleased to land Steven Bergwijn in the January window (h/t Independent).
Levy might take a bit of time to finalise any further deals, given how precarious the condition is due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, landing someone like Meunier on a free would be a fantastic deal.
The 28-year-old has been a regular at PSG for years, and we have signed a couple of stars from the French side in the past.
