Dayot Upamecano keen to stay put in Germany amidst Tottenham Hotspur links
According to French outlet Soccerlink (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a blow in their efforts to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
The Frenchman, who is one of the best young defenders in the world, has chosen to stay put in Germany with Bayern Munich his preferred destination.
According to the report, the player has rebuffed an approach from Spanish giants Barcelona and has already agreed to join Bayern in principle.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed an impressive campaign that has seen Leipzig challenge for the Bundesliga crown. They have also made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, thoroughly outplaying us in the last 16.
He missed the first leg in North London before returning to put in a commanding performance in the return fixture. His performance will not be forgotten by Spurs who failed to see a way past him that night.
Upamecano has just over a year left on his current deal with the Bundesliga side. He has also been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United as well as a host of other Europen sides, including Barcelona(h/t Football.london).
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho traveled to Germany in February to watch RB Leipzig hold title rivals Bayern Munich to a hard-fought 0-0 draw at the Allianz Arena. The trip was to scout Upamecano. (h/t Mirror)
The defence is a key area for the team to invest in going into next season. We have struggled to keep clean sheets this season and have the joint-worst record for the same in the Premier League.

Jan Vertonghen’s contract is coming to an end and Toby Alderweireld is not getting any younger. Hence, bringing in a young center-back should be a priority this window.
Given the current financial landscape, landing our primary targets might get a little difficult. We can safely take Upamecano off that list, if there is some truth to this news.
