Four Tottenham Players feature in Jermain Defoe Best XI
Jermain Defoe has named four former Tottenham Hotspur stars among the best XI of players he has played with in his career (h/t The Scottish Sun).
Defoe, who has had a gloried career in football, had two separate stints with our club. Defoe joined the club in 2004 and spent four fruitful years, before leaving 2008 for Portsmouth. However, only a year later the Englishman was back at the White Hart Lane.
The 37-year-old made 363 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 143 goals, before leaving for Toronto FC in 2014. Currently at Scottish club Rangers, he was asked to pick a best XI of players who he has played with. And the striker has named four of his former teammates at Tottenham in the best XI.
Former captain and club legend Ledley King gets the nod at centre-back. Defoe cites his two-footed nature and the ability to perform at the highest level despite battling injuries made him special (h/t The Scottish Sun).
Kyle Walker, who is currently at Manchester City, also gets picked. Defoe played for only a couple of seasons with the Englishman. But the former Spurs striker claims that Walker is one of the best athletes he has ever seen and his potential could be seen from a young age (h/t The Scottish Sun).
Luka Modric and Gareth Bale in the mix
Luka Modric gets picked at the base of the midfield in Defoe’s best XI because of his ability to dictate games. The Croatian midfielder is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders to have played for Tottenham. And Defoe clearly agrees with that opinion (h/t The Scottish Sun).
“He can literally dictate a whole game. Technically he’s one of the best players I’ve played with and he’s such a nice guy. He’s a special footballer.”

And finally, the last former Spurs player who Defoe picked is Gareth Bale. The Welsh wing-wizard was flourishing at our club during Defoe’s second stint and has since gone on to achieve great things with Real Madrid (h/t The Scottish Sun).
In addition, Defoe picks David James in goal, while Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole make up the defence. Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and David Beckham complete the midfield unit, with Wayne Rooney picked as the striker.
