Jose Mourinho not ready to give up on Tanguy Ndombele
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho isn’t ready to quit on midfielder Tanguy Ndombele despite his struggles in his debut campaign in England. This is according to Football.London‘s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold.
Ndombele signed for Tottenham only last summer from French club Lyon. The deal to land him cost us a club-record £55m. And naturally, expectations rose along with the price-tag. There were many who believed that Tottenham had found the long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele (h/t Football.London).
After an impressive start though, the Frenchman has struggled to live up to expectations. Injuries haven’t helped his cause either, not allowing to get a continued run of games in the first-team. Mourinho has even criticized him heavily in the past.
In the aftermath of all this, Ndombele has been linked with a switch to Barcelona. The Catalans are reportedly willing to send Nelson Semedo and Samuel Umtiti the other way to snap up the Frenchman’s signing.
However, as per the aforementioned report, Mourinho and his coaching staff believe in the midfielder’s potential and his world-class ability. Moreover, the general feeling within the club is that Ndombele’s representatives are trying to push him towards an exit by drumming up interest in the media (h/t Football.London).
The impromptu outdoor training session that Mourinho conducted with the Frenchman, though ill-advised given the current circumstances, was supposed to reaffirm his belief in the midfielder (h/t Football.London).

The 23-year-old Ndombele has featured 27 times for Tottenham this season. The midfielder has scored two goals and set up four more. He may haven’t been able to impress this season, but there is plenty of quality and potential. And Mourinho should retain the midfielder this summer.
