Harry Winks encourages men to talk about mental health problems
Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has encouraged people, especially men, to open up and talk about mental health issues amidst the coronavirus lockdown (h/t Daily Star).
In a recent interview with Micah Richards as part of the FA’s #FootballsStayingHome initiative, our academy graduate stressed the importance of discussing mental health, amidst these challenging times (h/t Daily Star).
“It’s important – especially as men, not just footballers. We always trained never to really talk about things and get it off our chests. But I think now everybody is more open about it.”
The 24-year-old went on to stress that talking about mental health problems would help everyone and lead to a healthier mindset and lifestyle (h/t Daily Star).
Winks further went on to claim that being cooped up inside the house during lockdown might get difficult. And he stressed that having a good support system around and keeping in constant touch with closed ones helps in these situations (h/t Daily Star).
The England international also opened up on the benefits of getting out of the house and indulging in light exercise, while respecting the guidelines put in by the government (h/t Daily Star).
“I follow government guidelines, go for a daily walk every day as well. Just to get out of the house, get some fresh air, a bit of exercise. But I’m lucky that I’ve got that close-knit family and friends around me.”
