Spurs Transfer Rumours: English midfielder on radar, 19-goal French marksman wanted
Tottenham Hotspur are in the headlines even when the football on the pitch is suspended. We take a look at the latest Spurs transfer news and rumours of the day.
Wissam Ben Yedder emerges as target
According to French publication L’Equipe, Tottenham are among a host of clubs targeting AS Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder. The 29-year-old has been in fine form this season, having bagged 19 goals and set up 9 more in 31 matches in all competitions.
Ben Yedder signed a new long-term contract only in August last year, but Monaco could be forced to sell due to finances being impacted by the coronavirus. And Tottenham are among a host of top clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid monitoring the Frenchman’s situation.
Spurs are in need of a new striker to compete with Harry Kane, no denying that. However, a move for Ben Yedder looks difficult, given the number of clubs trying to sign him.
Polish defender Michal Karbownik on club’s radar
As per a report in the print edition of the Mirror (h/t Sportslens), Tottenham are eyeing a move for Polish sensation Michal Karbownik. The 19-year-old Legia Warsaw left-back has had a fine 2019/20 campaign, during which he has managed six assists in 22 first-team appearances.
The report states that Tottenham have been monitoring the teenage sensation for almost a year now. We will face competition from the likes of AC Milan and Real Betis for Karbownik’s signing.
With Danny Rose’s exit this summer almost a given, the club will need reinforcements at the left-back slot. But Karbownik seems to be very similar in profile to Ryan Sessegnon. So it is hard to see the club acting on the reported interest in the Polish defender.
Vedat Muriqi seeking England move
Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi has been linked with a move to Tottenham for a while now. And as per latest reports from Turkish outlet Fotomac (h/t Sport Witness), the Kosovan forward has his heart set on a transfer to England.
Muriqi is also a wanted commodity in Italy. However, in a recent meeting with Fenerbahce president Ali Koc, the striker reportedly insisted that he wants to move to the Premier League.
This is sure to come as a boost for Spurs. As mentioned previously, Tottenham need a new striker to cover for Harry Kane. And Muriqi, given his form this season, could be a valuable asset, should the club sign him.
Mohamed Simakan leaning towards Italy
Only yesterday reports emerged claiming that Tottenham were targeting a move for RC Strasbourg defender Mohamed Simakan. However, as per the latest update, the young Frenchman is leaning towards a summer switch to Italy, where AC Milan are keen to sign him.
His agent, Badou Sambague told Calciomercato (h/t Football Italia), that Simakan preferred a switch to AC Milan in the summer.
“We know that Italy is the best school for young defenders. Plus, Milan is Milan, while Paolo Maldini is Paolo Maldini… These are two huge names in the sport.”
Simakan is a versatile 19-year-old, who can play at centre-back and right-back. Having a young, versatile operator in the squad would have been a smart move for Spurs. But it seems like Milan are set to win this race.
Tottenham join Chelsea in Declan Rice pursuit
In one of the biggest Spurs related transfer rumours of the day, Tottenham Hotspur have joined Chelsea in pursuit of West Ham United star Declan Rice, according to 90min.com.
Rice has grown into one of the best young defensive midfielders in the country over the past year. While West Ham have struggled this season, the 21-year-old has continued to impress.

Given the lack of a quality defensive midfielder at Jose Mourinho’s disposal, a move for Rice makes sense. Moreover, with West Ham reportedly interested in Eric Dier, some arrangement for a player plus cash deal could be worked out, giving Spurs the edge over Chelsea.
