Tottenham Hotspur the most valuable Premier League club according to a study

Tottenham Hotspur have been named as the most valuable Premier League club ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City by a university study (h/t Daily Mail).

Football finances expert Kieran Maguire and the University of Liverpool conducted the study and have concluded that Tottenham have become the most valuable club in the Premier League, with an overall club value of £2.567 billion.

“Spurs are top of the valuation table because in 2018/19 they delivered a Champions League final and a top-four Premier League finish on a wage budget that was £100-150 m lower than the rest of the ‘Big Six’. As such, they made more profits, and this was reflected in the final valuation number.”

Tottenham have not won a trophy since 2008. But on-field success under Mauricio Pochettino and the rise in commercial interest following the construction of our new stadium, combined with a relatively low wage bill, has led to club’s value skyrocketing.

Having been third-most valuable in the Premier League in 2018, Tottenham have now risen to the top. Manchester City, who topped the 2018 table, drop down to second. This despite their quadruple win during the 2018-19 campaign. Manchester United move down to third as a result.

Current league leaders Liverpool have moved to fourth from the sixth place, following their success under Jurgen Klopp. Arsenal and Chelsea make up the top six.

The fact that there has been such an enormous rise in the club’s value over the past year shows that the club is headed in the right direction. With Jose Mourinho at the helm, trophies should also follow. Provided we are able to add a few players to the squad ahead of next season.
