No player wage cuts at Tottenham until more clarity on season
Tottenham will not ask players to take wage cuts until a clearer picture emerges regarding the season and the financial implications that it may have. This claim comes from a report from The Athletic.
Tottenham were one of the first clubs to furlough non-playing staff after the lockdown was enforced due to the coronavirus outbreak. But chairman Daniel Levy reversed the decision after facing severe backlash from supporters and former players alike.
And the club have now decided to tread carefully with regard to player wage cuts in order to avoid another PR disaster (h/t The Athletic).
As per the report, Spurs are waiting to get more clarity on how the 2019/20 season will end and the full financial implications of it, before asking players to take a pay cut.
An alternate report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham players are unwilling to accept pay cuts but would be open to payment deferrals.
Till now West Ham United, Southampton, Sheffield United, Watford and Aston Villa have all agreed deferrals. Our rivals Arsenal are the only club to have imposed a pay cut on players. But that has been met with criticism from some quarters.

While the player wage cuts issue rages on, Tottenham have been doing their bit in the fight against the pandemic. Our stadium has been turned into a hospital unit as well as a coronavirus testing centre. Produce grown in our training centre is being distributed to the needy in the community.
It remains to be seen if Levy & co. decide to request players to take salary cuts in the coming days.
