Tottenham interested in Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their pursuit of Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as they prepare to offload Tanguy Ndombele according to a report from The Times.
Hojbjerg came through the youth ranks at Bayern Munich and joined Southampton in 2016, after having failed to make the step up to the first-team. Since joining the Saints, the midfielder has been a constant presence in the side. Till date, the 24-year-old has racked up 129 appearances for Southampton, managing five goals in the process.
Hojbjerg, named the Southampton captain this season, has been in impressive form. He has been integral to the club’s resurgence after a dismal start saw them staring at the possibility of relegation. In 2019/20, the Danish international has made 33 appearances in all competitions.
Hojbjerg’s performances have put him on the radar of our club, as per the report. It further claims that Tottenham are looking to offload Tanguy Ndombele in the summer, due to his complicated relationship with the manager (h/t The Times).
We have lacked a quality defensive midfielder in our ranks this season. Eric Dier’s form has been up and down and Victor Wanyama was allowed to leave the club. Moreover, with Dier keen on moving back to the centre-back role permanently, it becomes imperative that we bring in a new defensive midfielder in the summer.
Hojbjerg’s physicality and tough-tackling nature would make him an ideal fit into Jose Mourinho’s team. Moreover, at the age of 24, he will provide the club with a long-term solution in the holding midfield role.

The fact that Hojbjerg’s contract will expire in a year means he is likely to be available on a cut-price deal. This makes him an even more attractive prospect for Tottenham.
