Gareth Bale lifts lid on Tottenham Hotspur exit in 2013
Former Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale has opened up on his exit from the club, claiming when a club of Real Madrid’s stature comes calling, one has to take the opportunity. (h/t Football.london)
Bale joined Tottenham from Southampton in 2007. After a slow start to life at White Hart Lane, the Welshman exploded in a huge way and soon became one of the most coveted young footballers across Europe.
Eventually, Real Madrid came calling in 2013 and the winger jumped at the opportunity, making the move to Santiago Bernabeu for around £80m. Now, opening up on his exit from our club, Bale said that the lure of Real Madrid was too good to turn down. (Hat-Trick Podcast h/t Football.london)
“I loved my time at Tottenham, the fans were incredible, the club treated me amazingly. I was enjoying it but when one of the biggest clubs in the world comes after you, you want to take that opportunity.”
Bale left Tottenham in 2013 after having made 203 appearances, in which he scored 56 goals and assisted 58 more. Since joining Real Madrid, the Welsh wing-wizard has grown into one of the best forwards in the game, despite having had ups and downs at the club.
So far, the 30-year-old has featured 249 times for Los Blancos, scoring 105 goals and setting up 67 more. He has won 13 major honours with the Spanish heavyweights, including four UEFA Champions League trophies.
