The Danish midfielder, a product of the Bayern Munich youth ranks, has been with Southampton for almost four years now. However, his contract with the South Coast club will expire next year, leading to speculations over his future at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the 24-year-old midfielder according to reports. And the Danish international has issued a response to the speculations speaking on Viaplay Sport Live (h/t Football.london).
“It’s a big club and I also think Christian Eriksen has positive memories from there.”
The 24-year-old, though, further insisted that he is currently staying focused on Southampton for when the Premier League returns. He stated that whatever happens in the future, he will take it as it comes. (h/t Football.london)
Having allowed Victor Wanyama to leave, Tottenham lack a proper defensive midfielder in the ranks. Moreover, Eric Dier, who has played in that role for a number of years for our club, has insisted that he is keen on moving into a centre-back role. This would leave us in need of a new holding midfielder ahead of next season.
And Hojbjerg, given his form, would be a viable addition. The Danish midfielder has been one of Southampton’s better performers, helping them pull away from the relegation battle.

Moreover, with his contract expiring in a year, the midfielder is likely to be available on a cut-price transfer fee.
As Hojbjerg mentions, there is the Christian Eriksen link that could work in our club’s favour. The attacking midfielder may have left earlier this year, but enjoyed a fine stint the club. Hopefully, he plays a role in convincing Hojbjerg to make the switch to Tottenham from the Saints come summer.
