Spurs Transfer Rumours: Another goalkeeper linked, Mourinho keen on 15-goal ace
Tottenham Hotspur are making the news even when the football on the pitch is suspended. We take a look at the latest Spurs transfer news and rumours of the day.
Tottenham rival Liverpool in Ugurcan Cakir pursuit
According to a report from Turkish outlet Fotomac (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are set to join Liverpool in pursuit of Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir. The 24-year-old has been in fine form in the Turkish Super Lig this season. And, he has seemingly got an admirer in our manager Jose Mourinho.
With Hugo Lloris entering the final years of his career, Tottenham are looking at potential long-term replacements to take over from the captain. In addition, Paulo Gazzaniga has hardly looked convincing enough to be trusted to man the goal week in week out. So, bringing in a new goalkeeper makes sense for the club.
What complicates matter is that Cakir has a contract till 2024, which puts Trabzonspor in a strong negotiating position. Moreover, with Liverpool also interested in the goalkeeper, Cakir’s club could drive the asking price up, making things further difficult for Spurs.
Mourinho keen on signing Vedat Muriqi from Fenerbahce
Spurs manager Jose Mourinho is intent on landing Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi in the summer, claims a report from Turkish source Takvim (h/t Sport Witness). The Kosovan international has been linked with a move to Tottenham for a long time now.
The report states that Jose is behind the club’s interest in Muriqi and is driving hard to get the striker on board in the summer. Spurs are willing to offer around €15m for the 26-year-old, which the Turkish outfit would find acceptable.
Muriqi has been in fine form this season, scoring 15 goals and 6 assists in 28 appearances. And given his style of play, he would be a fine fit in a Mourinho team. It now remains to be seen if the club is able to fulfill Mourinho’s wishes and sign the 26-year-old.
Tottenham told to pay €12m for Robin Koch
SC Freiburg’s Robin Koch has been linked with Tottenham for some time now. And according to reports in Portugal (h/t Sport Witness), the German club have set an asking price of €12m for the versatile defender.
The 23-year-old has made 26 appearances for Freiburg this term, contributing with 2 goals. He has been primarily used as a centre-back by SC Freiburg but is equally comfortable playing in the defensive midfield role. Given our defensive problems, the German would be a decent addition, more so considering his versatility.
The €12m fee seems very reasonable, but we will have to battle the likes of West Ham United, Leeds United and a few other clubs to land the 23-year-old.
Verona defender Marash Kumbulla linked
According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham have identifield Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla as the ideal man to replace Jan Vertonghen.
Vertonghen has been dropping hints that he will leave Tottenham when his contract expires at the end of the season. The club see the 20-year-old as a candidate to fill in the vacancy created by the Belgian’s departure.
