Former physio George McAllister passes away due to coronavirus
Tottenham Hotspur were rocked by the news of former physio George McAllister falling prey to the coronavirus. Aged 72, he passed away recently at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The club have posted an obituary on the official site.
McAllister was a popular member of our backroom team in the early 1980s. Working as the assistant to physio Mike Varney, he watched Keith Burkinshaw’s team lift the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982 before adding the 1984 UEFA Cup to the set.
Born in Scotland, George took up a role as a physio at Huddersfield Town before a second spell at Spurs. This occurred in 1993 under the management of Spurs legend Ossie Ardiles. He later ran a private physio practice back in Huddersfield.
Steve Perryman, captain of those glory years in the early 1980s and then Ossie’s assistant in George’s second spell in 1993, had nothing but praise for the 72-year-old. He went on to describe McAllister as a top bloke.
“In the two spells he had with us – one under Keith, one under Ossie – George contributed to the professionalism and camaraderie in both eras. He was a top, top bloke.”
