Tottenham Hotspur make with Hellas Verona over Marash Kumbulla
According to the Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Serie A side, Hellas Verona, regarding Marash Kumbulla.
Defence is one area that requires reinforcements, especially so given what appears to be the imminent departure of Jan Vertonghen. With a replacement necessary, Spurs are set to battle Everton for the Albanian international.
According to the report, the 20-year-old will be permitted to leave the club if we fork out £26.6million. Such a move, if it takes place, will place him joint-fifth in our most expensive signings list.
Having come through the youth system at Verona, Kumbulla has made 21 appearances for the first-team, 19 of which have come this season. Already capped at the international level for Albania, he has also drawn attention from Italian giants Inter Milan.
Kumbulla is young and has shown enough promise in his appearances in Serie A so far. With his career set to last more than a decade, he can be moulded into a fine defender. If he does progress as expected, he could form a solid defensive unit alongside the emerging Japhet Tanganga.
The Albanian is excellent on the ball and is very capable of playing out from the back. A staple of modern football, the attribute will hold him in good stead going forward.

Kumbulla is by means a bargain, especially in the current market. However, good ball-playing centre-backs are worth their weight in gold. The Albanian is a gamble worth taking if Tottenham can afford him.
