Tottenham target Ivan Rakitic seeking return to Sevilla
According to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who has been linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur, is keen on returning to former club Sevilla.
The 32-year-old has been an integral part of the Catalan club’s success since joining the club in 2014. However, with his contract expiring in 2021, Rakitic has been heavily linked with an exit from Camp Nou recently. And Tottenham have emerged as one of the favourites to land the Croatian international. (h/t Daily Star)
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is a known admirer of the Croatian international. The Portuguese has praised Rakitic in the past and called him one of the most underrated footballers.
However, Spurs’ hopes of landing the seasoned campaigner have been dealt a blow as Balague claims that he is intent on staying in Spain, with a return to Sevilla mooted.
“Rakitic is another one that has been suggested, that he may leave. He wants to go to Sevilla.”
This is surely set to come as a blow for our club, given the lack of experience in our midfield department. Rakitic is someone who has proven his pedigree at club and international level for years now and would have definitely increased the quality of our squad.

Moreover, his experience and winning mentality would surely have rubbed off on our relatively young and inexperienced squad.
However, with Rakitic intent on staying put in Spain and eyeing a return to Sevilla, a summer transfer to our club is pretty much ruled out.
With transfer budget likely to be limited, it will be interesting to see how Mourinho goes about business on the transfer window is open for business.
